Islamabad: Dr. A Z Hilali, an expert in international relations, has praised Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for his efforts to alert the global community to the severe impact of floods in Pakistan. During his address at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), PM Shehbaz emphasized that Pakistan is one of the countries most affected by climate change, despite having little to no role in global greenhouse gas emissions.

According to Radio Pakistan, the United Nations has passed resolutions urging countries to assist those affected by natural calamities and has called for the establishment of a special fund for such purposes. Pakistan, currently facing severe challenges due to Indian water aggression, has incurred losses amounting to billions of dollars. India has been accused of deliberately releasing water towards Pakistan, causing widespread flash floods.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has brought this issue to the fore, urging the international community to support Pakistan in coping with the consequences of these floods, in line with UN resolutions. Pakistan has extended an invitation to donor countries to participate in relief efforts for flood victims. Dr. Hilali stressed that without international intervention, the relevance of global forums addressing such issues is questionable.

Estimates from international institutions indicate that Pakistan has suffered losses amounting to $140 billion due to the floods. Dr. Hilali concluded that it is imperative for the international community to support Pakistan, as the country cannot manage the aftermath of such devastation on its own.
