Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced that the ceasefire between the United States and Iran remains intact, with concerted efforts in progress to address obstacles for lasting peace in the region. He made this statement while presiding over a Federal Cabinet meeting in Islamabad today.

According to Radio Pakistan, it is the first instance in 47 years that leaders from both nations have engaged directly, thanks to the diligent and sincere diplomatic efforts led by Pakistan. Prime Minister Sharif expressed his gratitude to Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and US President Donald Trump for agreeing to the ceasefire and dispatching high-level delegations to Pakistan for discussions.

The US delegation, under the leadership of Vice President JD Vance, and the Iranian delegation, headed by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, were engaged in Islamabad for 21 continuous hours, a noteworthy event in recent diplomatic history. The Prime Minister noted that both parties valued Pakistan’s sincerity, hospitality, and mediation during the Islamabad Talks, which he described as a crucial opportunity for promoting global peace.

Shehbaz Sharif also praised Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Chief of Army Staff, and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, along with their respective teams, for their relentless efforts in securing the ceasefire and facilitating negotiations between the two nations in Islamabad.

During the meeting, the cabinet unanimously adopted a resolution commending Pakistan’s proactive role in fostering peace and stability in the region. The resolution acknowledged Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for orchestrating the historic peace talks that ended a stalemate lasting nearly five decades.

The resolution emphasized that Pakistan’s contribution to peace efforts will be remembered in world history, and it expressed hopes for the continued success of Pakistan’s leadership in establishing enduring global peace.
