Islamabad: Minister for Law, Azam Nazeer Tarar, convened a meeting with the UK Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for the Middle East, Afghanistan, and Pakistan, Hamish Falconer, to discuss enhancing bilateral relations in various critical sectors, including human rights, justice reforms, and climate change mitigation.According to Radio Pakistan, the meeting emphasized reinforcing collaborative efforts between the two nations, focusing on advancing human rights frameworks and justice system reforms. Azam Nazeer Tarar highlighted Pakistan's initiatives in human rights, notably the National Action Plan on Human Rights, which serves as a comprehensive mechanism for policy development and the execution of international agreements.The discussions also tackled the protection of minority rights as stipulated in Articles 20-36 of the Constitution of Pakistan. On the climate front, the Minister informed the UK delegation about a recent constitutional amendment acknowledging the right to a clean, healthy, and s ustainable environment as a fundamental right.Hamish Falconer praised Pakistan's active steps towards improving human rights and justice systems and appreciated the constitutional endorsement of environmental action. He reiterated the UK's commitment to support these endeavors through technical aid and joint programs aimed at fulfilling global objectives in human rights and environmental sustainability.
