President Calls for Joint Efforts to Address Issue of Poverty

Beijing: President Asif Ali Zardari has emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts among members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) to address pressing global issues such as poverty, climate change, and bio-degradation. The President highlighted the strategic advantage of the SCO’s contiguous geographies, offering a historic opportunity for economic connectivity and mutual problem-solving.

According to Radio Pakistan, President Zardari, writing for China Daily, stressed the need for unified actions to tackle poverty and inequality to achieve genuine human security and a just global order. He commended the SCO’s achievements in recent years, particularly its effectiveness in combating terrorism and transnational crimes like drug trafficking.

The President noted that the upcoming Summit in Tianjin presents an opportunity to outline a roadmap for the next decade’s comprehensive development among SCO members. He reflected on the growth of the SCO from a nascent organization to a robust entity promoting cross-regional peace, stability, and prosperity.

President Zardari underscored the necessity of collective action against terrorism, extremism, and separatism, which pose significant threats to global stability. He also highlighted the strong relationship between Pakistan and China, celebrating China’s leadership on both regional and global stages. He described the Pak-China partnership as legendary and envied by other nations, acknowledging China’s unwavering support during Pakistan’s challenging times.

Furthermore, President Zardari affirmed that the SCO is not just a security alliance but a platform for economic collaboration and fostering international understanding. He expressed Pakistan’s full endorsement of China’s vision to advance the “Shanghai Spirit,” promoting mutual trust, sovereign equality, and shared development across Eurasia and beyond.
