Islamabad: Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan have expressed their appreciation for the proactive initiatives, resilience-building measures, and modern preparedness mechanisms implemented by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).

According to Radio Pakistan, the commendation was made during separate visits by high-level parliamentary delegations from both countries to the NDMA Headquarters in Islamabad. The delegations also toured the National Emergencies Operations Center at the headquarters.

The Uzbek delegation was led by Nuriddin Ismoilov, Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, while the Kazakh delegation, comprising 20 members, was headed by Gizet Nurdauletov, Secretary of the Security Council. During their visit to the National Emergencies Operations Center, the delegations received a briefing on Pakistan’s disaster management framework. They learned about NDMA’s pivotal role in coordination and the integration of technology in disaster response and early warning systems.

Chairman NDMA, Lt General Inam Haider Malik, welcomed the delegations and provided a detailed briefing on Pakistan’s national disaster risk reduction strategies. He explained the coordination mechanisms with provinces during Monsoon 2025 and discussed the role of modern tools in enhancing national preparedness and resilience through the National Common Operating Picture and the Global Common Operating Picture.

The NDMA team also provided a comprehensive overview of the development of disaster early warnings, risk communication, and relief and response operations being conducted in flood-affected regions. They emphasized the institution’s role in global disaster relief assistance, highlighting Comprehensive International Simulation Exercises with regional countries, including Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, for knowledge sharing and the adoption of global best practices.

Both sides emphasized the significance of enhancing bilateral and regional cooperation in disaster risk management, capacity building, and the exchange of expertise. The visits underscore the growing regional solidarity among Central Asian countries and Pakistan in addressing shared challenges posed by natural disasters and climate change through collaboration and mutual support.
