Tehran: Pakistan army chief Field Marshal Asim Munir will visit the Iranian capital, Tehran, on Monday, as announced by Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei on Sunday.

According to Radio Free Europe Radio Liberty, the visit is aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation and building upon Pakistan's efforts to strengthen peace and security in the region, as detailed by Baqaei through the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA). Munir is expected to engage in discussions with senior Iranian officials during his visit.

Pakistan has played a significant role as a mediator between Iran and the United States throughout ongoing tensions and has maintained a close dialogue with both parties. The US and Iran had initially signed a memorandum of understanding on June 17, initiating negotiations toward a final agreement. However, the discussions stalled due to disagreements over security guarantees and the freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical route for global energy supplies and trade.

From July 8 to July 24, the US and Iran engaged in military exchanges, with the US launching attacks on targets within Iran, while Tehran retaliated by striking US military facilities and equipment in several Arab nations, including Jordan, Bahrain, and Kuwait.
