The United Nations says it has temporarily stopped some operations in Afghanistan and warns many other activities will also likely be paused after ban on women aid workers.

In a joint statement, top UN agency officials and civil society organization heads called on the Taliban to reverse ban on women working for NGOs that provide aid relief.

They insisted female staff is key to every aspect of the humanitarian response in Afghanistan as they have access to populations that their male colleagues cannot reach.

The UN and NGO chiefs said, women must be allowed to continue work as teachers, nutrition experts, team leaders, community health workers, vaccinators, nurses, doctors, and heads of organizations.
